Meet David

My Pickleball Story

How did I go from a beginner to a 4.5 rating* in just 3 months?

For 30 years playing squash at the state level, I learned the importance of focus and training. I have also coached squash, tennis, and snowboarding, and have even applied these principles to business and life (which is my day job). Coaching and training are my true passion.

Recently, I obtained my PTR Pickleball Coach Certification to gain a deeper understanding of the theory and fundamentals of the game.

*To be fair, I started around 3.5 due to my squash background. And I’m not counting the month I played left-handed due to injury. My DUPR hit 4.5 after 17 games playing relatively low-rated players; BUT – my last 16 tourney games at the 4.0-4.5+ level (14 wins, 2 losses, gold and silver medals) were not counted for DUPR, so I think it balances out 😉
Who I am in the world

I have been a business and life coach for entrepreneurs for 30 years. I have authored a couple of self-help books with forewords by Jack Canfield, the renowned author of Chicken Soup. I am a motivational speaker, actor, and  am currently focused on turning senior pro in pickleball.

My Coaching Style

I prefer to go narrow and deep, vs wide and shallow. So I won’t cover 5 shots in a lesson. Expect to become good at 1 or 2 things before we move to the next. This is why drilling in between sessions is so important. You can’t expect any improvement in a session to stick, without drilling.  I’ll also help you make notes on each session so you know exactly what to drill each week.

Here’s my PickleballProgressionTM…regardless of your rating you’ll start at the beginning and master each step.

PACKAGES

Once you’ve had two pickleball lessons, so we can see if we’re a fit, and you’re demonstrating commitment to improving, you’re eligible for a discounted package of 3 months.

FREQUENCY

I recommend a regular schedule of once a week, for say 3 months, as a starting point.
If you’re in a hurry, twice a week is fine – providing you’re also drilling in between.

GUARANTEE

If you don’t feel the pickleball training was significantly helpful, I’ll refund your full fee. The only condition is you apply what we work on by drilling specifically that for at least 2 hours in the week following the session.

Policies

  • Payment is in advance.

  • You can cancel or reschedule with 24 hours notice for a full refund or credit for another session.

  • If you cancel or reschedule with less than 24 hours the fee is non-refundable. (if it’s super easy for me – e.g. push back an hour – I’ll sometimes make an exception).
  •
If I ever have to move or cancel a session with less than 24 hours notice, you get one free pass to do so in future.
  • We’ll continue in light rain, and have towels to wipe off a wet court. Assume the pickleball class is on unless you get a cancellation message from me. If we get in a partial lesson, I’ll add the remaining time to the next lesson. (And sometimes in Asheville it might require a little waiting out the rain, or moving the session around it)
